This is part two of the ‘The Seven Chakras and how to support each with essential oils’ series. In the first part, we looked at working with the three lower chakras, Root, Sacral and Solar Plexus. These chakras look after your physical and emotional identity. They are also related to your connection to the physical world and your relationship with your own self-image. The lower chakras are also the key to staying connected and being grounded, so therefore it’s fundamental to start with these. Now, we are going to move on to looking at the Heart and Throat chakras. The chakras in this part of our physical body are very important to our emotional connections, love, compassion, empathy and communication.
Heart Chakra
The heart chakra is in the heart space, in the chest area, often called the ‘heart centre’. This chakra focuses on your love, healing, compassion, empathy, and forgiveness, both for yourself and for others as well. It’s connected to the element of air, just like air love and compassion are all around us, and free-flowing. It is often seen and described as a green colour, which represents transformation.
If this chakra is not balanced, you may be experiencing physical difficulties in your chest area, such as your heart, lungs, cheats or down to your arms or hands. This may form as poor circulation, asthma or respiratory issues, or high or low blood pressure for example. Energetically you may feel feeling worthless, inability to trust yourself or others, feeling lonely, defensive, jealous and not about to forgive and holding a grudge.
Essential oils for balance: Rose, Geranium and Lavender
To work with this chakra and bring it back into balance, allow some time to lock yourself away in the bathroom, run a warm bath, light some candles and play some soft or uplifting music, maybe your favourite playlist. Just before you relax into the bath add a splash of this bath oil mix.
- 100mls of Blending Oil, either Grapeseed or Sweet Almond
- 10 Drops of Rose
- 10 Drops of Geranium
- 10 Drops of Lavender
Mix in a 100ml bottle and blend. Use approx. 25mls per bath. Mix well into the water before you enter the bath. Be careful as oils can make the bathtub slightly slippy.
Gently lay back in the bath, close your eyes and start to inhale the nurturing aroma of the essential oils. Whilst you relax try and clear your mind, start thinking of all the things you truly love in life, the people that bring you joy and the moments you have felt total joy and love, breathe this all in while you rest your hands on your heart.
Throat Chakra
The Throat chakra is often described as bright blue or sky blue and is located in your throat area. This chakra has a strong focus on how and what we communicate. This could be with other people such as friends, family or colleagues and how we also communicate ourselves.
If this chakra is not connected and out of balance, you may be feeling like you can’t speak up, speak your truth or are not listened to. This can often manifest physically as a sore throat, or teeth, gum and mouth issues.
Essential oils for balance: Peppermint and Eucalyptus
To get the Throat Chakra aligned once again we need to use our voice. This can be a fun exercise like singing in the shower or putting the radio on and singing along. Try not to worry about how you sound, sing like you don’t care who hears.
Before your singing session or before a meeting that you might need to talk in try using this rollerball blend.
- 10ml Grapeseed oil
- 2 drops of Peppermint
- 3 drops of Eucalyptus
Add the carrier oil to a 10ml glass bottle with a rollerball cap, followed by the essential oils. Roll a little on your neck area, and you can also use on pulse points too. Just like fragrance, you can smell the aroma just before you sing, attend that meeting, have that conversation or where you may need to be listening with complete compassion.
