Not so long ago, being vegan was the reserve of a few hardcore eco-conscious types and the restrictive lifestyle was considered by the majority as a burden, rather than a choice. Times have well and truly moved on and as the trend for living a healthy lifestyle and looking after our wellbeing continues to grow, veganism has left its extreme image behind and has become a statement of healthy intent.
According to a recent survey from The Vegan Society, there are now record numbers of vegans in Britain. In the past decade, numbers have more than trebled, driven mostly by the young (almost half of vegans are under 35). How far veganism has come is no more evident than on the high street where vegan products are more popular than ever. And, it’s not only food that can be vegan. What you put on your skin as well as in your body can be free of animal products and the growing number of vegan beauty and wellbeing products is growing rapidly.
There are many reasons why turning vegan is good for you; for the animals, for your health, for the environment. We are proud to have the Vegan Society stamp on our Tisserand Aromatherapy products and with November being World Vegan Month, now is the perfect time to discover the benefits of switching to vegan.
VEGAN products are kind to animals
Vegan products are good for animals, very good in fact. The Vegan Society’s definition describes veganism as a way of living which seeks to exclude, as far as is possible and practicable, all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose. Vegan products do not contain any animal ingredients or ingredients derived from animals and has not been tested on animals. If you love our furry friends, there’s no better way to show it than by becoming vegan.
VEGAN products are good for the planet
It’s not only hippies wanting to save the earth nowadays; we all want to live a greener life and lower our carbon footprint. Avoiding all animal products is the single biggest thing you can do to help protect our planet as the production of meat and other animal products places a drain on the environment – from crops and water required to feed the animals, to the transport and other processes.
VEGAN products are beneficial to your health
Vegan products are not only better for animals and Mother Nature, they’re also better for our health. Increased energy and healthier looking skin comes from eating well-planned plant-based diets rich in protein, iron, calcium and other essential vitamins and minerals. The plant-based sources of these nutrients tend to be low in saturated fat, high in fibre and packed with antioxidants. If it’s good enough for Jennifer Lopez, then there must be something in it.
