Have you ever considered that aromas are invisible? It might seem obvious, but consider that for a moment. When we smell something we like, we often automatically engage our other senses and attempt to build a physical form in our heads. Perhaps we are subconsciously reaching out for more of the goodness our noses are experiencing, greedily trying to soak it all in and unlock more and more to delight our other senses. This was the inspiration behind our new Nature’s Spa packaging design.
Introducing our illustrator, Fenella John.
While the beauty of nature – its slow-paced, gentle movement and how it can carry scent – has inspired the aromas and mood benefits of our beautiful new Nature’s Spa blends, we wanted to capture this movement in our packaging too. When Fenella John, our very talented in-house designer and illustrator, smelt these blends for the first time, her senses kicked into action immediately, and she began to draw how she imagined our aromas would look if they had a colour and a shape.
“The idea of the ‘ebb and flow’ of nature inspired me initially, and how that translates to human emotion and mood, which is also ever-changing. I took inspiration from the natural currents and shapes created by the earth’s ripples and waves, winding tree roots and the sunlight that bounces off nature, casting shadows and changing perspectives.
When it comes to our blends, of course, every plant has its natural current, and this is also what I wanted to capture and show how each scent entwines together.
Incorporating this rolling, undulating rhythm of lines helped to bring movement to the illustrations, and with the individual botanicals entangled in this way – perhaps slightly unrecognisable but with something familiar still present – it replicates the way the aromas unite in the blend. I think there’s something quite magical about it.”
Our blends
At Tisserand Aromatherapy, with all our essential oil blends, it’s what’s inside that makes the difference, but when it came to Nature’s Spa, we took the holistic approach. We create our blends with a very handcrafted style, with our experts composing the aromas by cherry-picking each essential oil to play its role, and with Nature’s Spa, thanks to Fenella John, we have given the outside of the bottle the same handcrafted feel.
