Demands of modern life can be tough and with three in four Brits admitting that they have been so stressed at least once in the last year, that they have been unable to cope*, we wanted to shine the spotlight onto the wellbeing of everyday people, by asking what simple steps they take to ‘finding their happy’. First up is Tisserand Aromatherapy Sponsored Athlete and Head of International Sales, Sarah Lannin.
What does wellbeing mean to you?
Cooking and eating proper food, exercising, fresh air, sleeping well, enjoying life, laughing, being nice to others and thinking of them before you.
Do you feel the pressure to work long hours / lead the perfect Instagram life / be perfect?
With age comes a certain degree of not worrying about what others think of you so much. I don’t engage in social media because I believe it puts far to much value on such fleeting things as ‘the perfect look / image / life’ and I’d rather be living it, than taking pictures of it and pretending it’s something that it isn’t.
Why did you decide to collaborate with Tisserand Aromatherapy?
Natural products resonate with me. I don’t lead an exemplary sustainable life, but I’d like to think I’m not a consumer for the sake of consuming. Natural products which deliver benefits definitely have a place in my bathroom cupboard.
What’s your relationship with your mirror?
Fleeting
What’s the best piece of advice you could give to improve wellbeing?
Turn off the phone. Leave it at home. Go for a walk. Don’t pick up the phone again. Read a book. Talk to a friend. Make something. Do something. Think for yourself. You really don’t need to watch yet another clip of a kitten, or read someone’s riveting feed about their coffee or watch more advertising for more stuff you don’t really need.
Which Tisserand Aromatherapy products do you use?
I have a full pre and post-match ritual. Before setting off, I diffuse the Mind Clear Diffuser Oil in my house and I always carry the Roller Ball in my gym bag. For me, it really does help take the pressure off. Post-match I indulge in a blissful bath using the Muscle Ease Bath Oil, followed by the Body & Massage Oil. The blend of ginger, Lemongrass and Rosemary really helps to revive my muscles – and also happens to be my favourite, fragrance wise!
What’s your attitude to time passing by?
I’m turning into my parents! But you already knew that, from reading what I’ve already written! I’m quite proud that at the age of 47 I’m still playing hockey for Mid Sussex in the Sussex Premier League.
What’s your favourite things to do, favourite way to spend the weekend / after work / to recharge?
Out of work, I’m usually found playing hockey, doing Pilates, cooking, pottering in the garden, going for a walk and eating & drinking with my boyfriend.
