Like puberty, menopause is a natural transition and one that all women will go through in their lives. So what actually is menopause?
Quite simply, menopause refers to the time from which a woman has stopped menstruating for 12 consecutive months. But there are a number of stages and symptoms of menopause that are often misunderstood, under-researched, or just not spoken about. Perimenopause refers to the final years of a women’s reproductive life in which lowering levels of oestrogen tease you with symptoms which can start many years before menopause and continue past the end of menstruation. Genetics, health and lifestyle can all have an impact on each women’s experience, but while each experience can be vastly different, there are a number of more common signals and symptoms which tend to crop up.
