…And last but by no means least is Robert Tisserand trained aromatherapist, Jo Kellett.
What does wellbeing mean to you?
Its all about balance. If I’ve got too much on, either work or personal commitments I start to feel overwhelmed and out of kilter. So, I review my diary, look at my personal commitments and make sure I have some ‘me time’ scheduled in. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to actually put it into your diary! If I look after myself, then everyone around me benefits.
Do you feel the pressure to work long hours / lead the perfect Instagram life / be perfect?
I love what I do, I feel very privileged to be an Aromatherapist and to be working with essential oils on a daily basis. My clients and students look to me for answers and knowledge. I am aware that I hold a great deal of responsibility in what I pass on. For me, this is the most important aspect of feeling the ‘pressure’, you infer; so, I keep informed and up to date. I do love a bit of social media, but for me, it’s not about the numbers, it’s about sharing a story, an image or some exciting new development or research.
Why did you decide to collaborate with Tisserand Aromatherapy?
I have had a close affiliation with Tisserand Aromatherapy for over 20 years. I studied at The Tisserand Institute gaining my diploma in Holistic Aromatherapy in 1996. I returned to the college as Essential Oil Therapeutic Tutor in 1999 and taught there until its closure in 2004. I have now been working back at Tisserand as their essential oil expert for just over 2 years and have been involved in some exciting new projects, developing blends and working closely with the media and marketing departments.
What’s your relationship with your mirror?
That’s a funny one… putting my contact lenses in, applying my makeup, taking it off at night – daily… and giving myself a mini face massage, 2-3 times a week!
What’s the best piece of advice you could give to improve wellbeing?
For me, that is a no brainer, have a regular aromatherapy massage
Which Tisserand Aromatherapy products do you use?
Sleep Better: Thankfully I am a good sleeper, I love bedtime! I do however like most people sometimes find it hard to switch off. For me, this is the time to reach for the Sleep Better Pillow Mist. It allows me to slow down my thoughts and makes me aware of my breath, this ultimately helps me to drift off! I keep a bottle of it on my bedside table
Energy High: I love citrus oils, so the Energy High blend of Lime, Grapefruit and Petitgrain is wonderful. I keep an Energy High Roller Ball in my bag for easy application, It’s great to use when I have a deadline or I am in need of a quick energy boost. The uplifting and positive combination of these three essential oils work wonders!
Find Focus: The blend in this range is great for a shot of mental clarity! Rosemary will give you a boost, whilst the citrus notes will uplift you. I like the Roller Ball, I use it whilst I do my admin!
What do you do (other than products) to help improve your wellbeing/sleep/stress levels?
Exercise, I run which allows me to have ‘thinking’ time and I practise yoga which keeps me balanced and supple. I have regular massages as mentioned above and try to get out into ‘nature’ as much as possible.
What’s your attitude to time passing by? …
Well, there’s no stopping time…. For me its all about acceptance. I try to live in the moment as much as possible and give thanks for what I have.
What’s your favourite things to do, favourite way to spend the weekend / after work / to recharge?
Music is crucial for my happiness. I love to listen to music and go and see live music regularly, for me this is how I recharge away from what I usually do. I am also a keen walker, and happy to say my partner is too! I am also a member of a choir, we meet once a week, this for me, is one of my week evening highlights!
