Products & Ingredients
Find out more about our products, ingredients, and commitment to ethical and sustainable practices.
Yes, at Tisserand Aromatherapy, we are proud to use only the highest quality pure essential oils and naturally derived ingredients. Our formulations are carefully crafted to ensure they are as close to nature as possible, free from synthetic fragrances and chemicals.
While the vast majority of our ingredients are 100% natural or naturally derived, a small number of our products may contain safe, nature-identical preservatives where necessary to ensure product safety and shelf life. These are always used minimally and with your wellbeing in mind.
Every Tisserand product is certified vegan by the Vegan Society, and we proudly display their logo on all our packaging. Our products are also cruelty-free and never tested on animals at any stage of the production process.
We continually work to reduce our environmental impact. Most of our packaging is recyclable, including our cartons, bottles and many of our plastic components. We encourage customers to check local recycling guidelines and look for recycling information and symbols on our website and packaging.
Our products should be used within one year of opening. You can find the PAO symbol, which resembles an open jar with a number and 'M' inside, on all of our packaging, indicating the number of months the product is safe to use after opening.
To maximise the life of your oils and other products, keep them in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight. Our amber bottles also help prolong their life, protecting the essential oils and preserving their therapeutic benefits. Old essential oils should never be used as there is a risk of irritation or sensitisation.
Many of our products are suitable for sensitive skin; however, because everyone's skin is unique, we recommend performing a patch test before first use. If you have known sensitivities or allergies, please check the full ingredients list or consult your healthcare professional before use.
Some pure essential oils are not recommended for use on sensitive skin. Please refer to the usage instructions and safety information on each essential oil product page for specific guidance.
Some essential oils, like Clary Sage, are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. We advise avoiding essential oils entirely during the first trimester and consulting with a healthcare professional before use at any stage of pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
If using essential oils after the first trimester, use only a 1% blend, which is equivalent to 1 drop of essential oil per 5ml of blending oil. Essential oils should never be ingested or used neat on the skin.
Many of our pre-blended products are suitable for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding; however, we do not recommend using our Massage & Body Oils and Body Creams/Lotions due to their higher concentration of essential oils. Our Restore Balance range is also not suitable for use during pregnancy as this blend contains Clary Sage.
If you have any concerns, consult a Healthcare Professional before using essential oil products when pregnant or breastfeeding. If any irritation or other symptoms occur, remove the product and discontinue use.
For more information and guidance on beneficial oils that can be used after the first trimester, read our pregnancy blog articles.
Essential oils can affect animals very differently from humans, and you should be careful when using them around your pets. We recommend using our products, particularly diffusers and pure essential oils, in well-ventilated areas and ensuring pets can leave the room if they choose. Do not apply essential oils or our other products directly to your pet's skin or fur, and avoid using them on surfaces around your home that your pet may have access to. Always store your essential oils and other products in a safe, secure location, away from curious noses.
There are some 'pet-safe' essential oils; however, these should only be used under the guidance of a vet or trained animal aromatherapist.
If you have any concerns, consult a veterinarian before using essential oils around animals.
To keep your Aroma Spa Diffuser in optimal condition, be sure to empty and gently wipe clean the water tank with a soft cloth after every use.
Cleaning your device regularly helps prevent oil buildup and ensures the best performance of your diffuser.
If you use your diffuser regularly and with different blends or essential oils, you can deep clean it by wiping it with a cleaning solution of white vinegar and water.
Always unplug the device before cleaning, and be careful not to get the electrical parts of the diffuser wet. Avoid using harsh chemicals and abrasive tools, as these can damage your device and the ultrasonic plate.
Fragrance allergens are certain ingredients found in perfumes, scented cosmetic products, and essential oils. While our products never contain artificial fragrances, some of the natural components within pure essential oils can occasionally cause skin sensitivities in certain people. If someone has developed a sensitivity to one of these ingredients, even tiny amounts may trigger a reaction such as redness, itching, or a rash (also known as allergic contact dermatitis or skin sensitisation).
Since we use only 100% natural pure essential oils for fragrance, any allergens in our products come solely from these natural sources. If fragrance allergens are present in our pre-blended products, they are clearly listed at the end of the ingredient list, with each specific allergen highlighted by asterisks. For our single essential oils, we list any naturally occurring allergens at the end of the Safety Information, following the word Contains.
If you experience any irritation or discomfort after using a Tisserand product, discontinue use immediately and rinse the affected area with soap and clean water. Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or are severe. We also recommend contacting our Customer Care team with details so we can support you and investigate further.
Under the regulations of UK and EU law, certain products with potentially hazardous properties must display warning information about these hazards on their packaging, a practice known as CLP (Classification, Labelling, and Packaging). This requirement isn’t limited to household products; it also includes aromatherapy items such as Single Essential Oils, Blended Diffuser Oils, and specific non-cosmetic products like Room Mists.
In response to the ongoing evolution of the interpretation and implementation of these regulations, Tisserand has taken proactive measures to achieve full compliance and establish leadership within the market, aligning with our commitment to excellence across all aspects of our operations.
Essential Oils
Find out more about our essential oils, how we source them, and how to use them safely.
Essential oils are concentrated aromatic extracts derived from plants, such as flowers, leaves, bark, or fruit peels. They capture the plant’s natural scent and beneficial properties, and have been used for centuries to support wellbeing, both emotionally and physically. They are typically obtained through distillation or expression and sourced from across the globe.
We work with trusted suppliers from around the world to ethically and sustainably source the finest quality 100% natural pure essential oils. Every oil is carefully selected, following strict quality control standards, testing and ethical sourcing practices to ensure transparency from plant to product. Tisserand Aromatherapy essential oils are categorised as either Organic, Ethically Harvested, or Wild Crafted based on their source. You can find out more about our sourcing here.
Essential oils are natural extracts obtained through the distillation or expression of parts of plants, such as flowers, leaves, bark, and roots. They contain a complex mixture of naturally occurring compounds (e.g., terpenes, aldehydes) that deliver their unique aroma and the plant's bioactive properties. They're commonly used in aromatherapy and wellness treatments for their natural, holistic benefits.
Fragrance oils are synthetically formulated for their scent, and therefore lack therapeutic qualities. They often mimic natural aromas, but can also be used to create unique fragrances that don't exist in nature. Although their synthetic nature makes them longer-lasting and more consistent, they can cause irritation to those who are sensitive to artificial chemicals.
At Tisserand, we only ever use 100% natural pure essential oils to fragrance our products, never synthetic fragrances or parfum.
Essential oils can be used in many different ways. They each have a unique aroma and therapeutic properties, so you can choose specific oils or a combination of them depending on what you want the effect to be or how you want to feel. You can find out more about how to use essential oils and their benefits by checking their product pages, related blog articles or our social media pages.
How to use essential oils: 4 easy applications to try today - Tisserand Aromatherapy
Some of the most common ways to use essential oils are:
- Adding them to a diffuser to create an aromatic atmosphere or to ease respiratory congestion.
- Combining them with a blending oil to create a massage blend, skin treatment, hair treatment or bath blend.
- Using them around the house for cleaning and housework (add link to spring clean blog)
Essential oils should not be used neat directly on the skin because they're highly concentrated and may cause irritation or an adverse reaction. Always dilute essential oils with a blending oil, unscented lotion or cream before applying them to your skin.
We offer a range of pre-blended Roller Balls, Massage & Body Oils and treatments for safe, direct application if you are not interested in blending pure essential oils.
Ingesting essential oils for medicinal purposes or culinary use is potentially very hazardous and not something we would ever recommend. While tiny amounts of essential oils are naturally present in herbs and spices, they're typically at least 100 times more concentrated in pure essential oils, and can cause irritation or damage to the digestive tract if ingested.
We do not recommend using essential oils directly on or around children under the age of 3.
If you wish to create your own massage blend for your child, please use the safe dilution guidelines below:
- Ages 3-5: No more than 2 drops of essential oil per 10ml of blending oil.
- Ages 6-11: No more than 4 drops of essential oil per 10ml of blending oil.
- Ages 12+: No more than 5 drops of essential oil per 10ml of blending oil.
To use individual essential oils or a pre-blended diffuser oil in a diffuser for your child, please use the guidelines below:
- Ages 3-5: Add 4 drops in total.
- Ages 6-11: Add 6 drops in total.
- Ages 12+: Add up to 8 drops in total.
Always use a diffuser in a well-ventilated room, and we recommend avoiding running a diffuser while children are in the room. Keep both the diffuser and product containers out of reach of children.
If you have any concerns, consult a Healthcare Professional before using essential oil products on or around children. If any irritation or other symptoms occur, remove the product and discontinue use.

The idea of different 'grades' of essential oil is a myth, and there is no 'grade' of essential oil that should ever be ingested or used in food.
The term 'therapeutic grade' is not a recognised standard or regulated term. What really matters is that the essential oil has been sourced from a reputable botanical origin, extracted correctly, and has the right aroma profile to deliver optimum benefits.
This is all part of the rigorous quality control and oil selection process behind every Tisserand 100% natural pure essential oil, and we pride ourselves on sourcing essential oils that meet the standards expected by professional aromatherapists.
High-quality essential oils are typically 100% pure, free from additives, and clearly labelled with the botanical name (like Lavandula angustifolia for Lavender). Look for oils that are stored in dark glass or amber bottles to help preserve their quality and therapeutic benefits.
Expert Blends
Find out more about our pre-blended products and how to use them safely.
Pre-blended oils are ready-made mixtures of essential oils, often combined with a blending oil, designed for a specific purpose, such as relaxation, energy, or sleep support. They take the guesswork out of blending and are generally safe to apply directly to the skin, depending on the dilution. Always check the label for usage instructions and ingredients.
A single essential oil is just that, an undiluted extraction from a single botanical source. They give you complete flexibility to create your own blends or use them individually (always with the appropriate dilution).
Whereas our pre-blended products are carefully crafted combinations of multiple essential oils in a base (like a blending oil or mist), created by our in-house Aromatherapist and technical team to achieve a synergistic effect. They are designed with a specific goal in mind, such as improving sleep quality or reducing stress, and can combine the complementary properties of different oils.
Our pre-blended products are formulated with a complete knowledge of essential oil profiles, properties, and synergies, delivering targeted benefits with optimal safety and effectiveness.
Blending essential oils allows us to combine the unique properties of different oils and enhance their overall effect. Blending essential oils can create synergy, meaning they work more effectively together at supporting specific health or wellbeing needs than a single oil alone. Our expertly crafted blends are made from 100% pure and natural essential oils that complement each other for a more effective result and balanced aroma.
