This emotionally supportive oil is often used to help lift the spirit, ease frustration, and promote a sense of inner peace. It’s especially valued during emotionally intense moments, from mood swings to general stress, and may be a comforting companion throughout the menstrual cycle.

Physically

On the skin, Geranium is known for its balancing effects, making it a great option for all skin types. It can help regulate the production of sebum, offering support to both dry and oily skin. It may also help to soothe physical discomfort, including menstrual cramps, when used in a massage blend. To support your body during your cycle, add 5 drops of Geranium to 10ml of blending oil and massage into the abdomen. Use gentle, clockwise motions around the belly button to help soothe menstrual cramps.

Aromatically, Geranium is a middle note essential oil, the main body and balance of a blend, meaning its scent will last a few hours. It blends well with Lemon, Lavender or Cypress.

Geranium originates from the island of Réunion in the Indian Ocean, where the tropical climate supports over 200 varieties of this vibrant plant. It features lush green leaves and delicate pink-purple flowers. Surprisingly, Geranium essential oil is steam distilled from the leaves rather than the flowers. Each leaf is covered in thousands of fine, silky hairs, and at the tip of each one sits a microscopic sac filled with fragrant oil. Simply brushing the leaves is enough to release the plant’s signature rosy scent. Geranium is mentioned very little in herbal medicinal history but it is a firm favourite in modern essential oil kits, having grown in popularity in recent years.
