Product Details

Warm, spicy and woody, Myrrh essential oil has a rich, slightly bitter aroma that’s both comforting and grounding. It can create a sense of calm and encourage inner tranquility, making it a great meditation aid. It can also be used as a gentle skin treatment to encourage skin repair.

Emotionally
Myrrh is deeply comforting during times of sadness or emotional strain. It calms the breath, settles mental distress and supports quiet meditation, encouraging a sense of inner tranquility.

Physically
Myrrh is known for helping to restore and soothe the skin, especially mature or slow-healing skin. It can be added to your favourite moisturiser for a nourishing, restorative effect. It is also a favourite in traditional medicine, and can be used in a compress to help draw out infection and aid skin repair. Myrrh may also help to loosen tight, chesty coughs and provide gentle respiratory support.

Myrrh essential oil has a rich, warming aroma with bittersweet notes.

Aromatically, Myrrh is a base note essential oil, the longest lasting scent in a blend. It blends well with Patchouli, Grapefruit or Frankincense.

Native to the deserts of Oman, Yemen, Ethiopia and Somalia, the tough myrrh shrub oozes a fragrant reddish-orange gum that is distilled to create the essential oil.

Myrrh is an essential oil with a wide and interesting history. This humble shrub has appeared in numerous historical records, dating back nearly 4,000 years and has strong associations with ancient religions. Popular throughout ancient Egypt, Myrrh was used in an array of cosmetic and medicinal processes, from the embalming of mummies to the preparation of skincare treatments for affluent women. The Greeks also revelled in Myrrh’s cooling and healing properties, using it in fragrance blends and applying it to wounds to help inflammation and prevent infection.

Its chemical structure makes the essential oil viscous and thick; you have to be patient when allowing it to drop from the bottle. It also has a rich golden orange or amber colouring.
