As part of Aromatherapy Awareness Week, we spoke to aromatherapist Simone Stevens, who shares with us her tips on how to kick start your day with aromatherapy.
Simone says “I am often asked by friends how they can incorporate aromatherapy into their daily routine to improve wellbeing, particularly how to start the day right. For me, there are many powerful reasons essential oils are just so good, and I do love to bang on about them. Firstly, the direct healing action on the skin, supporting healthy skin cells, repairing, fighting infection, toning, cleansing, hydrating and moisturising. Heroes for the skin! They help your body to heal from the inside out – essential oils have molecules so small they can penetrate the semipermeable layer of skin. Meaning they can be transported around your body, eliminating toxins and repairing. And of course, the fragrance, the stunning smell essential oils give off can support so many moods, especially the ups and downs of life that many of us are facing right now”
Starting your morning
Wake up and start the morning with a couple of slices of lemon popped into a mug with warm water. This refreshing way to start waking up the body helps with digestion and detoxification.
You might exercise or meditate as part of your morning routine, so to really maximise this experience, choose some music to play that really wakes up your mind and try this diffuser blend for an uplifting boost, helping to dispel that sleepy mind fog.
Add the following to the water in your Aroma Spa Diffuser:
4 drops of Lemon – Citrus limonum
2 drops of Peppermint – Mentha piperita
2 drops of Rosemary – Rosmarinus officinalis
An elevating combination of Peppermint and zingy Lemon, mixed with the freshness of Rosemary, this blend will leave you feeling upbeat and focused for the day ahead.
Now step into the shower and treat yourself to this Invigorating body scrub blend to feel fresh and continue to energise your morning.
You will need:
1 tablespoon of Epsom Salts or Pink Himalayan Salt
2 tablespoons of runny honey
1 teaspoon of Jojoba Blending Oil My favourite blending oil, Jojoba Oil has a chemical composition that is like our skin, meaning it balances the skin’s natural sebum production and is full of Vitamin E.
2 drops of Lavender – Lavandula angustifolia
2 drops of Orange – Citrus aurantium dulcis
Combine all ingredients into a bowl. Before turning on the water, step into the shower and use your hands to massage the skin in circular motions. Then rinse off with warm water. Pat your skin dry with a nice fluffy towel and moisturise with your favourite body oil or moisturiser. Not for face. Do not use on cracked or irritated skin
Top Tip – For extra indulgence, why not add dried rose petals or lavender for additional fragrance and exfoliation
The final step
Finally, put a big smile on your face with a blend of essential oils to make the skin glow and the mind active.
What you will need:
Pour the Jojoba Oil into the beaker, add the essential oils, Grapefruit and Lavender, blend together and pour into a clean glass pipette bottle for storage
Pop up to six drops on your hands and massage them into the face. Leave to sink in, enjoy the fragrance and go show the day what you are made of!
