What is Vetiver essential oil good for?

You may have read the word in the description of your favourite perfume. But what is Vetiver good for and how do you use it?
Vetiver is a tall tropical grass from Indonesia, with long sharp-edged leaves and abundant aromatic roots from which the essential oil is steam distilled. Both the grass and roots are used locally to make fragrant mats, blinds and fans.
Aromatically Vetiver is warming, sensual and deeply grounding. It is a classic base note, long-lasting in its aroma and will add a wonderful smoky, tenacious note to any blend. You only need one or two drops in a blend for it to shine! It has been used traditionally in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to treat achy joints and muscles, as a skin salve, and to reduce fevers.
Interesting Fact: Vetiver essential oil is known locally as the 'oil of tranquillity'. This reflects one of its primary therapeutic actions.
Vetiver is a wonderful oil that brings serenity and calm to your blends. Effective for bringing you to the 'here and now', it is excellent for when you are feeling overwhelmed and depleted. It also acts as a wonderful sedative, particularly around emotional issues, so it can be helpful at the end of the day to aid in rest and relieve fatigue.
In a massage blend, it may help to reduce muscular aches and pains by relaxing the body and therefore allowing it to feel looser. It's also great to nourish dry or mature skin.
Add the following essential oils to the water in your Aroma Spa Diffuser:
1 drop Vetiver
5 drops of Orange
2 drops Cedarwood Virginian
This blend is great for the end of the day to help you wind down.
Add the following essential oils to 20ml of Blending oil:
1 drop of Vetiver
2 drops of Lavender
2 drops of Bergamot
Massage over your skin in long, slow, sweeping strokes to aid relaxation.
Top Tip: Vetiver can be very viscous, therefore it's a good idea to place your bottle in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes to aid the flow.
