5 Quick Tips To Combat Digital Stress (Even When You Work Online!)
Feeling overwhelmed by screens but work online? Learn how to combat 'digital stress' and find balance with our 5 quick tips.
When replying to messages from friends starts to feel like a chore, or your social media feeds fill you with dread rather than joy, it’s a sign you might be struggling with ‘digital stress’ There’s no denying we all spend a lot of time on screens, and the combination of information overload, self-comparison, and disconnection it brings can harm our mental health.  This is particularly the case for people who work online. While off-grid living might have its appeal, we know it’s not realistic for most people. Instead of telling you to ditch the screens, we’re giving you 5 tips to manage your screen time better. We’ve kept them quick, so you can switch them off as soon as you're done!

5 ways to cope with digital stress

  • Schedule digital breaks

If you’re someone who gets sucked into the digital world, set yourself strict screen breaks to remind yourself that life is lived outside of the screen! This could be meal times, before bed, or when you’re out with friends.
  • Customize your phone settings

On most phones, you can set screen-time limits for all or specific apps and customize when/what notifications you receive. Areoplane mode can be your best friend too!

  • Practice ‘Mono-tasking’

Multi-tasking has too long been celebrated - it’s time to mono-task instead! Scrolling while watching TV or working can put your mind into overdrive. Over time, this affects your ability to focus. Instead, stick to one task at a time. You might want to turn your phone off and put it in another room while you focus on the task at hand.

  • Find off-screen ways to unwind

A mindless browse through social media might seem like the perfect activity to unwind, but in reality, it can add to your stress levels without you realising. Instead, try self-care activities like practicing meditation paired with our Total De-Stress Pulse Point Roller Ball or journaling whilst diffusing our Mind Clear Diffuser Oil.

  • Use blue light filters

If you're prone to a bedtime scroll or working late, be aware that the blue light emitted by screens can disrupt your sleep-wake cycle and cause eye strain.  You might want to investigate blue light glasses or screen protectors to reduce the impact.

We hope these tips have provided some easy and accessible ways to reduce digital strain, even when you can’t ditch the screens!
