Wellbeing during your monthly cycle

Do you track your menstrual cycle? Are you aware of the changes that your body goes through every month? Are you in perimenopause and trying to cope with the transition? Or are you starting this journey as your body develops through puberty? Did you know that whatever stage of your hormonal journey you are at, there is an essential oil that could support you? Our Wellbeing range has pre-blended essential oil solutions to help you during your monthly cycle.
Nearly all of what we feel during our monthly cycle results from the delicate balance of our hormones. The intricate hormonal pathways that travel within our body change our appetite, make us sleepy, boost our libido, alter our temperature, make us happy or sad, and so much more. Understanding a little more about what is happening internally will allow you to take more control, and with that understanding comes acceptance and enlightenment! So, using a 28-day menstrual cycle as the basis, you may recognise signs that are happening to you in perimenopause or through puberty that will explain why you may feel as you do. These signs may also give you hints as to which wellbeing blend would be good for you.
Right in the early part of your cycle, where day 1 is the first day of your period, your body is already getting ready to produce a new egg. Oestrogen and Progesterone start to build, and this is called the Follicular phase. You will notice a change in your energy levels, which often peak around the Ovulation phase. Ovulation aligns with the middle part of your cycle around days 14-16. The final part of your cycle is where Progesterone tails off rapidly. You may become lethargic and begin feeling symptoms of PMS. This stage is the Luteal Phase which takes you up to your bleed.
However, as stated above, it's not only altered energy levels you'll experience during your cycle. Your appetite may also increase, and your sleep pattern can often become disturbed. Keeping track of what happens in your cycle will allow you to take steps to be in control and, more importantly, listen to what your body needs.
If sleep is eluding you, you may be in the Follicular phase. Try the Sleep Better Range, comprised of Lavender, Jasmine and Sandalwood, as this blend has been shown to encourage a good night's sleep. Use the pillow mist as you go to bed, or take a warm bath with the Sleep Better bath salts or bath oil, followed by the body oil, for a skin-nourishing treat.
As you move towards ovulation, you often feel more energised and inspired, keep those feelings going with Happy Vibes, and use the shower wash to start your day with a smile on your face!
If you are tired and your energy is low, you may be in the Luteal Phase. Using the Energy Boost Roller Ball or Mood Mist could alleviate your lethargy and give you a burst of energy. If your symptoms make you forgetful, then the Mind Clear roller ball could be helpful. If, however, you can rest, then do so! Your body will thank you. Use the Real Calm diffuser oil and kick back for some 'me time'.
At any point in your cycle, when you need emotional support, Restore Balance is the blend to reach for. Maybe you feel teary or overwhelmed or in need of some comfort. These emotions are often more prevalent in the latter part of your cycle, but through Puberty and Perimenopause, these feelings can appear at any point as your hormones shift and change. The blend of Rose, Geranium and Clary Sage has been put together to offer you harmony and equilibrium.
Understanding the changes in your monthly cycle is so empowering. Take the time to track your cycle, noting the emotions and physical symptoms you are feeling. You will start to see a pattern emerging, and that way, you can be in control!

Aromatherapy and essential oils are to be used 'complementarily' for your hormonal health. If you are unsure about any aspect of your hormonal balance or menstrual cycle, you should consult your GP.
