What are the benefits of Orange Essential Oil.
Did you know that there are three essential oils that come from the Orange tree? We get Neroli from the blossom, Petitgrain from the Leaves and Orange from the fruit. At Tisserand Aromatherapy we sell Citrus aurantium dulcis, Sweet Orange essential oil, as opposed to Citrus aurantium, Bitter Orange essential oil. This is because Bitter Orange essential oil is phototoxic. This means you have to be careful with using it on your skin and then going out into the sun. Citrus aurantium dulcis, Sweet orange, does not have this caution. (Sweet Orange essential oil also has the synonym, Citrus sinensis) Orange’s essential oil aroma is sweet, bright and most definitely uplifting. Just inhaling the aroma can bring a smile to your face! Most people have a positive emotional reaction to all the citrus oils. Orange oil is pressed from the rind of the fruit in a method called ‘expression.’
The best way to boost your mood or reduce anxiety is to inhale the essential oil, and one of the best ways to do that is to diffuse it. Orange essential oil has been found in studies to be anxiolytic, meaning it can reduce stress.
Orange essential oil is a key ingredient in our Total De-Stress range.
Emotionally Uplifting Diffuser Blend
To your Aroma Spa Diffuser, add the following drops:
4 drops of Orange - Citrus aurantium dulcis
3 drops of Bergamot – Citrus bergamia
1 drop of Ylang Ylang – Cananga odorata
This is great blend to use when you need a gentle ‘pick me up’ or are feeling anxious or stressed.
All Citrus oils have a soothing calming effect on the digestive system. Originally from the far East, citrus fruits are still used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) to treat digestive upset. Citrus oils are particularly effective at reducing digestive upset when accompanied by stress.
The best way to soothe a stressed tummy is to make a massage blend and apply to the abdomen.
Anxious Tummy Massage Blend
To 20ml of blending oil add the following drops:
5 drops of Orange Citrus aurantium dulcis
3 drops of Ginger Zingiber officinale
2 drops of Coriander Seed Coriandrum sativum
Apply to the abdomen in slow clockwise circles around your navel.
Orange essential oil is considered mildly astringent, meaning it’s better for younger or congested/oily skin. The following blend is safe for the face or can also be used on the body.
Calming blend for congested skin
Add the following essential oils to 20 ml of blending oil:
2 drops of Orange Citrus aurantium dulcis
1 drop of Lavender Lavandula angustifolia
1 drop of Palmarosa Cymbopogen citratus
Apply at night after your usual cleansing routine. Take your time to apply the blend in slow smooth strokes.
Like all the citrus family of essential oils, oranges are top notes, meaning they evaporate fairly rapidly, meaning they are highly volatile. They blend with so many other essential oils, making them very versatile. Orange blends particularly well with spice oils, woods and roots, and other Citrus oils. Orange will always bring a bright, fresh, top note to any blend.
The orange tree is relatively small with dark green glossy leaves, white blossom and round edible fruits.Like most of the citrus trees they originally came from China. The fruit was brought to Europe in the 16th Century and for hundreds of years, oranges were considered a luxury and something incredibly special! Orange trees grow widely across the globe and are easily obtained. Our orange essential oils come from Spain.
