Our ethically harvested Rose Otto essential oil originates from Bulgaria. It's extracted using steam distillation, where the oil is drawn from the petals of the rose flower, harvested at sunrise when its fragrance is most powerful, to produce an oil with a thin to medium thickness that is clear and may thicken when the oil is cold.

It’s celebrated as a supportive oil for women and can also help to soothe dry and inflamed skin.

Emotionally
Rose Otto is often used to provide support during times of grief, loss and emotional pain. It can lift the spirits, ease mood swings associated with pre-menstrual syndrome and menopause, and calm feelings of sadness and overwhelm. It’s a great choice for encouraging emotional healing.

Physically
Rose Otto nourishes and rejuvenates dry, sore or sensitive skin, soothing irritation and helping to restore a soft, radiant complexion. Its deeply moisturising qualities make it ideal for mature skin in need of extra care. It is also a popular perfume ingredient – simply add 1 drop of essential oil to 5ml of blending oil and apply to your chest and neck to wear its scent everywhere you go.

Rose Otto essential oil is gentle and soft with a sweet rosy aroma.

Aromatically, Rose Otto is a base note essential oil, the longest lasting scent in a blend. It blends well with Lemon, Lavender or Bergamot.

Otto is the Bulgarian word for "oil" and, since the 17th century, the region around the town of Kazanlik in Bulgaria has been the world's most successful source of Rose Otto essential oil. In the mid-20th century, Bulgarian growers began producing the oil successfully in Turkey too.

Production is labour-intensive; the flowers are handpicked at dawn, when the fragrance is strongest, and it takes around 200 blooms to produce just a few drops of pure oil. The delicate and beautiful Damask Rose has been used in cosmetic preparations for centuries, providing a luxury, feminine note to many of the products we use today.

How to use

Rose Otto Essential Oil

Simple and effective ways to incorporate Rose Otto essential oil into your daily routine.

Massage Blend5Per 10ml

Add up to 5 drops of Rose Otto per 10 ml of blending oil, or 2 drops per 10ml for a facial blend. Helps to boost the mood and cheer the spirit. It is also nourishing for dry and inflamed skin.

Skin Blend 2Drops Per 10ml

Add 2 drops of Rose Otto per 10 ml of blending oil for a facial blend, or up to 5 drops per 10 ml for use on the body. Nourishing and rejuvenating for dry and inflamed skin. Helpful for all skin types.

Bath Blend6Drops Per 20ml

Add 4 to 6 drops of Rose Otto to 20ml of blending oil – enough for around 3 baths. Add to the water just before you get in and swirl it around. Helps to boost the mood after heart ache, grief and loss. Also helpful for nourishing the skin.

Inhalation3Drops

Add 3 drops of Rose Otto to a bowl of hot water. Place a towel over your head, close your eyes and breathe in the steam. Helps to soothe mood swings and cheer the spirit. The steam can also help to cleanse and hydrate the skin. This application is not suitable for asthmatics. Instead use a diffuser.

Diffuser Blend8Drops

Add 6-8 drops of Rose Otto to your diffuser to create a supportive and soothing atmosphere. Helps to soothe the emotions and relieve feelings of grief or sadness. Particularly helpful for easing the symptoms of hormone-related mood swings caused by pre-menstrual syndrome or menopause.
