What are the benefits of Ginger essential oil?

Blog Nov copy
Ginger, Zingiber officinale, essential oil is steam distilled from the rhizome, the fleshy root of this tropical plant. It’s an herbaceous, perennial plant that produces spikey leaves and yellow flowers. Our essential oil, ginger, is grown in Madagascar. Its aroma is instantly recognisable, warm and spicy with earthy and woody notes too! Due to its chemical structure, Ginger can be a viscous oil, meaning that it may pour slowly from the bottle, so be patient with your drops!
In Aromatherapy, it's used for many things, so what are the benefits of Ginger essential oil? It's used as a digestive tonic and to warm and relieve tired muscles, its ability to add heat to a blend will relieve achy muscles. In a diffuser, it brings a warm rounded note to a blend and will add an invigorating spicy note as well as an aphrodisiac quality!
You will find Ginger in our Muscle Ease blend.

Ginger originated in Asia and became one of the first spices to travel the ‘spice route’. It is now extensively cultivated in most tropical countries where the plant thrives in hot, humid conditions. It has been used traditionally for centuries as a medicine for many complaints including coughs, colds and to restore energy. In the 16th century it made its way to the West Indies where it grew in abundance. Jamaican Ginger is still considered to be the best Ginger to use for culinary purposes. Dioscorides, a Greek Physician and Botanist from 40-90 AD, often called the ‘Father of Medicine’, declared Ginger to be an excellent digestive tonic, and it is still used in this way today!

What does Ginger blend well with?

It blends well with the ‘sweeter’ citrus essential oils like Sweet Orange or Grapefruit and compliments the spices, like Black Pepper or Cardamom. Ginger is a wonderful oil to use through the winter months, its warming aroma and therapeutic properties can be used to bring comfort and support. It will also encourage motivation and leave you feeling inspired!
