International Women’s Day on the 8th of March is a welcome reminder to appreciate the exceptional women all around us. From making breakthrough scientific discoveries to raising future generations, women really can do it all. While that’s worth celebrating, the societal pressure to do it all, all at once isn’t so great. Balancing family lives, career ladders, pay gaps, social circles, and hormonal cycles can be tricky. It’s no wonder women are nearly twice as likely to be affected by stress. We know that the solution requires society-wide support, but for the time being, here are 5 stress management tips for women trying to balance it all.
1. Keep your hormones in check
Before we even get onto societal pressures, women have a lot to deal with. In our research, we found that 90% of women experience changes in their moods and emotions during their natural cycles.
That’s because of hormonal fluctuations that have physical and emotional consequences. The two main players are oestrogen and progesterone, which have a knock-on effect on serotonin, the ‘happiness hormone’.
Whilst our Restore Balance collection won’t directly help with hormones, it does help ease changes in mood through the body’s natural cycles and life stages with these three essential oils/
- Geranium to ease emotional turmoil
- Rose to release tension
- Clary Sage to revive and relax the mind

2. Don’t forget to have fun
It might be an outdated song, but girls (and women and everyone else) just want to have fun. When you’re spinning a lot of plates, joy is usually the one that gets dropped. But everyone needs light relief to combat stress and keep their spirits up!
Check out these ways to have fun and boost your serotonin with our Happy Vibes blend.
3. Set boundaries
Women who like to do it all usually don’t like to do one thing: say no.
Even superwomen have limited energy levels and by telling people ‘no’ in a considerate way, you’re preserving yours. It isn’t rude, it’s simply setting a clear boundary to nurture healthy relationships.
Without boundaries, you risk running into stressful situations that don’t benefit you or anyone you’re around (like triple booking yourself every Saturday!).
4. Rest & refresh
Getting enough sleep is vital for your mental and physical health. If 8 hours seems impossible in your busy life, make the most of the time you do get to rest with our Sleep Better blend of Lavender, Jasmine, and Sandalwood pure essential oils.
5. Reach out for help
Lastly, and most importantly, don’t be ashamed to reach out for help.
That might mean catching up with a friend and sharing your worries, reaching out to a relative or company who might be able to help with childcare, talking to a colleague or your boss when work gets too much, or speaking to a medical professional or therapist for their advice.
A problem shared is a problem halved, after all.
