Did you know it can take anything from 2 to 7 years for a farm to become organic? It also comes with a hefty price tag that many small ethical farms can’t cough up. This means there are farmers out there with great (organic) crops that simply can’t afford to obtain a certification or are in the process of working towards it. Their products might be just as good - if not better - than some certified organic farms. Also, relying solely on organic certifications overlooks all the other aspects of ethical sourcing and production. There’s the purity of the oils, fair labour practices, sustainable farming methods, impact on local communities, biodiversity…and more. Our solution? How Do We Source The Best Essential Oils Across The Globe?

While we recognise that while certifications are important, we know they’re not the ultimate measure of quality and aren’t the most accessible either. That’s why 20 years ago we decided to take matters into our own hands and categorize our essential oils into three categories:
1. Organic
2. Ethically Harvested
3. Wild Crafted
This innovative approach allowed us to partner with a broad range of farmers and offer essential oils with diverse profiles and price points. The result? aromatherapy that’s accessible to everyone, without ever compromising on quality!
All our organic essential oils are certified 100% organic by the Soil Association, from farming through to processing.
Why?
Organic farming focuses on growing and producing without the use of synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, or GMO, which helps protect soil and support biodiversity.
How?
We ensure our certified organic essential oils are derived from plants that have been grown without the use of man-made chemicals and according to the international standards set out by IFOAM (The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements).
All our ethically harvested essential oils are derived from a herb, shrub, or tree that is cultivated in its natural environment.
Why?
If we keep taking from the planet without considering our impact, we risk ‘‘species depletion’’: the irreversible loss of species because of human overuse and exploitation. This can be an issue for slow-growing trees but is rarely a problem for most aromatic plants which are easy to grow in large quantities in their natural environment.
How?
We ensure all the plants are consciously cultivated in their natural environment to ensure the species grows in abundance and is not depleted.
All our wild-crafted essential oils are derived from plants that are not cultivated but gathered from their wild habitats, without damaging the plants or other wild species in the area.
Why?
Although they are not organic, they are grown in their natural habitat in sustainable conditions.
How?
These ingredients are collected from unmanaged areas such as forests, walkways, and waterways. These areas are, however, protected to ensure biodiversity and the preservation of the species.
